SlopeWatch is run by community members to carry out programs to share knowledge and information with other communities. For technical details, they are assisted and supported by volunteer geotechnical engineers, civil engineers, and geologists who are generous enough to share their knowledge and expertise.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide communities with the knowledge, know-how, and practical skills to protect and prepare themselves against the negative impacts of slope failures and develop the capacity to recover should disaster strike.
For this, people need access to more information, material and resources so that they can better understand and take proactive actions.
We try to fulfil this need through awareness and education.
Our Vision
Our vision is a society where all the relevant stakeholders involved in slope management (landowners, residents, government, private sectors and any member of the public exposed to landslide risk) share common goals and undertake concerted action towards keeping themselves safe from landslide threats now and into the future.
Eyes & Ears
By participating as SlopeWatchers, residents become the “eyes and ears” for the local authorities. Because residents are familiar with their surroundings, they are the best observers of any changes in the slopes around their homes.
Community Builders
By working together with federal technical agencies and local and state authorities, communities can take a risk-reduction approach to hillside living.
Knowledge Centres
Public awareness and education sessions help residents become more knowledgeable on safeguarding their communities.
