BiGBen or the Disaster Operations Centre of the Malaysian Public Works Department was established on 22 November 2008 as a One Stop Centre to manage information on disaster incidents involving federal and state roads under the supervision of the Public Works Department.
Among the disasters monitored include:
- Floods
- Landslides
- Collapsed or sunken roads
- Damaged or collapsed bridges
The Main Role of BiGBen
- Being a centre for the latest disaster information
- Disseminating information on road closures & alternative routes to the public
- Displaying disaster status online to facilitate the travel of road users
